Ansel Adams

Whew! Papers, papers, papers! This semester has been crazy stressful, now that it's almost over. This week has found me living in the library at school researching and writing my multiple papers. AAAAHHHH.
Lately, in order to help me forget (if only for a while) my papers, I've been looking at the photographs of Ansel Adams.
Ever since I took photography as a senior in high school, Ansel Adams has been my favorite photographer. He worked in black & white, photographing (most notably) Yosemite National Park and the West. His photos were sharply-focused and his use of contrast magnified his subjects to even more mythic proportions.
A few favorites:
"Aspens. New Mexico" - 1958

"Moon Rise, Hernandez, New Mexico" - 1941

"Tetons and the Snake River" - 1942

Geekiness Abound

Star Trek came out on DVD yesterday! Yes!

Now, I'm going to show my true colors. I'm a major geek. I blame my dad, really. He watched Star Wars, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and Quantum Leap when I was little. I had no choice BUT to like sci-fi.

My geekiness encompasses most everything: History, Lord of the Rings, Books, Lost, Domo-kun, Pi, Astronomy, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Trek.

Yes. Star Trek. The much ridiculed fandom for the better part of 40 years. The cool kids watched Han Solo shoot Greedo. The kids they stole lunch money from watched Kirk & Spock set phasers to stun.

Seemingly, not as kickass.

That all changed this past May. JJ Abrams made Star Trek the movie to see this summer. I've seen it three times all in all. A few weeks ago, I saw it in IMAX here in Boston.....it was the greatest experience ever! I felt like I was on the bridge of the Enterprise, that's how clear and sharp the screen was.

Above, is a picture of the DVD for the movie that just came out yesterday. If you've lived under a rock for the past few months, this movie is a reboot of the original Star Trek. It follows badass Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) as he enters Starfleet Academy and encounters the cool and logical Mr. Spock (Zachary Quinto). The two must work together along with the rest of the crew of the Enterprise: Dr. "Bones"McCoy (Karl Urban), Lt. Sulu (John Cho), Ensign Chekov (Anton Yelchin), Lt. Uhura (Zoe Saldana), and engineer "Scotty" Scott (Simon Pegg), in order to stop the sinister Romulan, Nero (Eric Bana).

As a side note: People at Saturday Night Live, get Zachary Quinto to host SNL! He would be perfect!

Mad Men Yourself!

Mad Men. God I really need to watch this show. My friend is OBSESSED and loves it pieces. Well, this what I imagine I would look like if I worked at Sterling Cooper.

My first post!

Oh wow! I started my own blog! It's so exciting! Basically, this blog of mine will be about anything that catches my fancy that I will post or write about, dear reader. I will try to update as frequently as possible (hopefully after finals). :)
